The African Union of Broadcasting (AUB), in partnership with RAI Italia, is organising a training workshop on 15 and 16 December 2025 on the role of media in preventing femicide and gender-based violence in Africa.

Held under the theme “From words to action: strengthening media impact in the prevention of femicide”, the workshop responds to alarming levels of gender-based killings across the continent and to weaknesses in legal enforcement, security responses and media coverage.

The training aims to equip African journalists with practical skills, ethical frameworks and strategic perspectives for in-depth reporting. Participants will be encouraged to investigate political, economic and cultural causes, expose legal and institutional gaps, examine the long-term health and economic consequences of femicide and report with greater accuracy and sensitivity.

The initiative forms part of AUB’s wider effort to strengthen responsible journalism on gender-based violence and support media organisations in moving from fragmented incident reporting toward prevention-oriented, investigative coverage.
